Out of Print
It’s such a simple idea that we were surprised that no-one had thought of it before (including us!).
There are numerous brands reprinting old album covers, recreating old tees, and generally recycling old designs, but Out of Print took a simple concept and made it their own.
Using classic book covers, the tees are printed with artwork from literary titles of past editions. Iconic artworks, such as the instantly recognisable Clockwork Orange, make their way on to butter-soft tees with a vintage feel that quickly become worn-in wardrobe favourites.
Perhaps it’s the love of a favourite book or perhaps it’s the faux-intellectualism of pretending to have read a classic tome when you haven’t; either way the Out of Print range of classic book covers printed onto cotton tees, sweatshirts and tote bags, has proved a winning range that takes the typical rock-band tee to a different, more widely-read level.
In addition to producing great t-shirts, Out of Print should be heartily congratulated on the sterling efforts of their charity work. In three years, Out of Print have sent 440,000 books to Africa, support youth literacy initiatives in the US, and supply new books to Hurricane Sandy victims. Admirable work for a young brand whose charitable work contrasts with the self-aggrandising bravado of most streetwear labels.
We first discovered Out of Print when they made their UK tradeshow debut at Margin back in August 2011, and they’ll be returning to exhibit at the event in February 2013 to preview their latest collections to buyers and press. For European enquiries, contact Boy Parker Distribution.
