Book Look: Out of Print Literary Tees
One of our favourite brands, Brooklyn-based Out of Print, has released a new batch of literary tees for men and women, including classic titles such as The Naked Lunch, The Sun Also Rises, and On the Road.
Out of Print are unique innovators who were the first to reproduce classic book cover artwork onto tees, bags, iPhone & iPad cases, and stationery. There are numerous brands reprinting old album covers, recreating old tees, and generally recycling old designs, but Out of Print took a simple concept and made it their own.
Iconic covers, such as the instantly recognisable Clockwork Orange, make their way on to butter-soft tees with a vintage feel that quickly become worn-in wardrobe favourites for men and women.
Perhaps it’s the love of a favourite book or perhaps it’s the faux-intellectualism of pretending to have read a classic tome when you haven’t; either way the Out of Print range of classic book covers printed onto cotton tees, sweatshirts and tote bags, has proved a winning range that takes the typical rock-band tee to an erudite level.
In addition to producing great t-shirts, Out of Print have sent over 440,000 books to Africa, support youth literacy initiatives in the US, and supplied new books to Hurricane Sandy victims. Admirable work for a young brand whose charitable work contrasts with the self-aggrandising bravado of most streetwear labels.
Out of Print will be returning to exhibit their latest ranges to buyers and press at London trade exhibition Margin in August. Out of Print first made their European trade debut at Margin back in 2011 and have showcased at the event since.
Margin is the longest-running, and only, independent trade exhibition in London, and has been launching new brands since 2002. Renowned amongst key buyers and press as the launchpad for new brands, Margin provides an affordable platform for new, young & emerging labels to meet with the fashion industry.
